James is an experienced loss adjuster with over 15 years of industry experience. He has managed large and complex assignments up to GBP 50 million across more than 10 countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including construction, power, energy, and specialist operational engineering claims.
Before joining the loss adjusting profession, James trained in the UK construction industry as a building surveyor. He began his adjusting career in 2010 through a graduate trainee scheme with a leading UK firm, handling domestic and commercial losses throughout the UK and Europe.
In 2013, James relocated to Hong Kong to specialise in construction and engineering claims with a leading international adjusting firm, working alongside market leaders in the construction and engineering field. He went on to establish the Charles Taylor Hong Kong Property and Casualty office in 2019, which serves as the group’s Construction & Engineering hub for Asia. He led the Hong Kong and Macau Construction & Engineering operation for five years, overseeing technical delivery and business development while maintaining a diverse portfolio of CAR, EAR, and operational engineering claims.
After more than a decade in Asia, James returned to Yorkshire in 2024, where he continues to manage construction and engineering claims across the UK, including contract works, third-party liability, plant, and professional indemnity losses through nominations on contractors’ annual accounts and major project appointments.
James holds a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Building Surveying (RICS Accredited) from Leeds Beckett University. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (FCILA), an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII), and AMDEW and BDMA qualified. James was awarded the Institute Prize by the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters in 2016.
